Mozambique’s central government and its provincial secretariats have since this Monday been able to hold virtual meetings with more than 1,000 participants.
The Ministry of Science and Technology and Higher Education on Monday launched a videoconferencing system donated by the Chinese company Huawei, capable of allowing the various government institutions to hold virtual meetings at both central and provincial levels.
There are 26 sets of equipment in total, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China, Wang Hejum explained.
“The 26 sets of videoconferencing equipment offered by Huawei to the Mozambican Government will allow a greater connection between the ministries and even abroad, improving the efficiency of work and government administration,” the Chinese diplomat said.
As an integral part of the system, one thousand further licenses are also available, potentially extending access at managerial level through the use of personal devices such as laptops and mobile phones.
Minister of Science and Technology and Higher Education, Daniel Nivagara, remarked that the system made it possible to potentially bring together up to a thousand people. Participants can meet regardless of location, making possible work sessions without the need for travel, contributing to savings in cost and time and obviating other logistical complications.
“It is important to note that this government videoconference system has 36 terminal points for participation in virtual meetings, located in the different ministries, central secretariats, and provincial secretariats,” Nivagara outlined.
The system will benefit all government ministries, and Minister of Health, Armindo Tiago, who participated in the virtual launch, already foresees gains.
“The government videoconferencing system arrives at a very propitious moment. It will reduce the risk of infection among state officials and agents, while also generating greater productivity among government institutions,” Minister Tiago said.
Since Monday, all ministries and state secretariats have had the videoconferencing equipment installed and ready to use. The system also allows for the making of recordings for later use.
Also during the launch of the platform, Huawei also donated temperature measurement units to the National Migration Service.
