A dredger working on the access channel to the port of Beira in Sofala collided on Monday with a Panamanian freighter, causing considerable damage to the dredger.
Confirming the reports, Sofala Maritime Administrator Antonio Vilanculos said that preliminary investigations indicated that the accident was caused by bad weather coupled with lack of visibility.
Vilanculos said that a team of Beira port divers was mobilised to ensure the safety of the crew of both vessels, and that sector technicians were currently working to prevent the Mozambican dredger sinking.
