André Oliveira Matade Matsangaisse, one of the’ brains’ of the self-proclaimed Renamo Military Junta, has just been reintegrated into Mozambican society as a civilian.
Matsangaisse presented himself at the accommodation centre for ex-guerrillas in Chuala, Barué district, Manica province, this Tuesday morning, to sign up for the DDR Disarmament, Demobilization and Reintegration process.
In the TVM report below, he thanks the contact group and the President of the Republic for his current security and for the promise to guarantee his life and safety.
“Tell President Mariano Nhongo again that we are not going to solve everything with weapons (…). There is a time to use guns, but if there is a time for dialogue, we must offer ourselves up to dialogue,” Matsangaissa, a nephew of Renamo’s founder, said.
He appealed to the head of the Military Junta to send the group that he has announced is available to the negotiating table. “I urge you to continue (sending the men) to dialogue, to talk and to end these problems, because war between Mozambicans is not a good thing,” Matsangaisse said.
Matsangaisse’s appeals were extended to the other members of the Military Junta, along with a claim that there are many interested in joining the DDR who do not do so for fear of being killed by the Defence and Security Forces.
“I encourage the government to continue with its information campaign and guarantees of security. Let them come and be integrated. It is better, so that tomorrow there will be no recriminations,” Matsangaisse said.
