Mozambique ponders review of laws on mineral, energy resources

Total said on Saturday that it had postponed the restart of work at a liquified natural gas (LNG) project in Mozambique following an attack on a nearby town this week.
The French energy group said none of the project staff were among the victims of the fighting, linked to an Islamist insurgency in northern Mozambique.
Some hours ago, TOTAL decided to withdraw all non-essential personnel to the relative security of Pemba. The French-based multinational is not cancelling the whole LNG project, but of course suspends all negotiated plans of phased return of specialists and general workers. pic.twitter.com/pusxi73cJA

I’ve said it a few times. Security threats are part & parcel of extractive sector in Africa..militancy did not lead to divestment in Niger Delta, Libya Oil Crescent & other areas of chronic insecurity. Instead, resilience will be built around the sector to protect investments
