The Mozambican Supreme Court has ordered the release of 11 of the 18 detainees as part of the main investigation into the state’s “hidden debts,” a source told Lusa on Thursday.
Of these 11, six are to be released on bail, namely: Zulficar Ahmad ((309, 000 meticais bail) , Fabião Mabunda (10.1 million meticais bail), Renato Matusse ((6.1 million meticais bail), Ines Moiane ( 3 million meticais bail), Sérgio Namburete (522,000 meticais bail) and Khessaujee Pulchand ( 1.2 million meticais bail).
Five other defendants will be released under Statement of Identity and. Residence, namely: Mbanda Henning, Simione Mahumane, Crimildo Manjate, Naimo Quimbine and Sidónio Sitoe.
Ndambi Guebuza, Bruno Langa, Ângela Leão, Gregório Leão, Cipriano Mutota, Teófilo Nhangumele and António do Rosário are to remain in prison.
The Supreme Court ruled after appeals lodged by the defence.
The first arrests in Mozambique were made more than two years ago.
