A 13-year-old girl is four months pregnant after being the victim of systematic sexual abuse by her uncle in Maputo’s Albasine neighbourhood.
The abuse was uncovered by family members when they noticed the changes in the victim’s shape. The child said the man enticed her with gifts.
The 48-year-old uncle, in charge of the minor since the first years of her life, confessed to the crime, saying that the rapes happened on the family’s ‘machamba’ [vegetable plot].
The man is being held at the 23rd police station in Chiango neighbourhood pending trial.
Meanwhile, a stepmother is being held at the 17th Police Station in the Jardim neighbourhood for putting piri-piri in the genitals of her nine-year-old stepdaughter, as punishment for wetting the bed.
The neighbours were woken by the child’s screams and took the offending woman to the neighbourhood police station. The girl was taken to José Macamo General Hospital for medical care.
