Renowned Mozambican journalist, social activist and chronicler of ‘Co’licença!’ Juma Aiuba passed away in the early hours of Tuesday, Jornal Txopela reports.
With his death, Mozambican journalism has lost one of its most solid pillars and a little of its soul, Txoepla writes.
Juma Aiuba died at home, in the city of Nampula. He was 40 years old.
Juma Aiuba held a degree in journalism from the School of Communication and Arts (ECA) of Eduardo Mondlane University.
His texts were published in the newspapers Diário da Zambézia, Jornal Notícias, Savana, Autarca, Embondeiro and recently in Carta de Moçambique , where he wrote the ‘ Co’
With extensive experience in working with communities through non-governmental organisations, Juma Aiuba was an important voice in the process of strengthening democracy in the country.
In simple terms, Juma Aiuba could be described as “the Trevor Noah of Mozambican journalistic chronicle”.
Born in Maganja da Costa, Zambézia province, he was preparing a book of his chronicles.
Juma Aibua leaves a widow and six children, aged between one and 15 years old.
The last article of the “Maitololo” was published on Monday, February 22, 2021 in Carta de Moçambique with the title “On Dr. Hélder Martins’s balls and the tongues of the courtesan dogs” [“Sobre os tomates do Doutor Hélder Martins e as línguas dos cães da corte”].
