Mozambique Elections: PGR lawsuit aims to intimidate - Podemos
It is with shock and sadness that I learned today of the passing of Daviz Mbepo Simango, the President of the Democratic Movement of Mozambique (MDM) and the Mayor of Beira city.
Mr. Simango was a passionate advocate for democratic governance, devoting his life to public service. The Mayor of Beira since 2003, he championed sustainable development and led reconstruction efforts following the devastation brought by cyclones Idai and Eloise. As founding member of the MDM party in 2009 he contributed to the broadening of democratic space in the country.
Mr. Simango was a committed supporter of the peace process. During the negotiations, he regularly met with the leaders of both Government and Renamo and encouraged inclusive dialogue as a means of achieving an effective peace. Mr. Simango attended the signing ceremonies in August 2019 and encouraged the full implementation of the peace agreements.
His leadership, compassion, and tireless energy will be missed. We offer our heartfelt condolences to his family, his party members, his friends, and to all Mozambicans during this difficult period.
May he rest in peace.
