Forty-nine students in Maputo province failed to write their final Grade 12 exams after testing positive for Covid-19, and 12 teachers from the same region are also infected with the novel coronavirus.
Speaking this Saturday after visiting schools that hosted 12th grade exams, Governor of Maputo province Júlio Parruque urged education professionals to redouble efforts aimed at preventing the spread of Covid-19 in educational establishments.
“We leave the invitation and the appeal to the teachers of this great union of the province of Maputo in the fight against Covid-19, because we have, unfortunately, Covid-19 in the heart of education in our province, where overall 49 students have been infected to date. It is a situation that we cannot remain indifferent to,“ Governor Parruque said.
“More than that, we have very strict presidential instructions for the Greater Maputo region, for the province of Maputo, to reverse the scenario,“ the governor concluded.
