Seven injured in Maputo bus crash

Seven people were hospitalised after a road accident in Maputo city’s Junta area on Wednesday night.
According to witnesses, at around 9.00 p.m. that night, a Matola Municipal Public Transport Company (ETM) bus on the Matola-Benfica route tried to overtake a light vehicle on a roundabout near the Filipe Samuel Magaia statue, and crashed into a drainage ditch.
The police attended the scene and confirmed that some passengers were taken to the hospital, but did not specify the exact number of those injured.
The bus driver, who also suffered head and arm injuries, claimed that the vehicle’s brakes malfunctioned, but passengers say he was driving too fast and simply failed to make the roundabout.
