South African budget vote passes but key coalition partner dissents

President of the Republic Filipe Nyusi has sent a message of condolences to his counterpart in the Republic of Zimbabwe on the death of Lieutenant-General Sibusiso Moyo, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade.
“I was deeply shocked and saddened by the news of the death, on the morning of 20 January 2021, of Lieutenant-General (in reserve) Dr. Sibusiso Moyo, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Republic of Zimbabwe,” President Nyusi writes in a note seen by ‘O País’.
The message calls the premature death of Minister Moyo a severe blow and an irreparable loss, not only for the people and Government of the Republic of Zimbabwe, but also for the Republic of Mozambique and the entire Southern African Development Community (SADC).
“Dr. Moyo, a distinguished patriot with a brilliant military career, soon proved his excellent diplomatic skills by serving as Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, making more friends in accordance with the foreign policy of the Republic of Zimbabwe,” Mozambique’s head of state writes.
These skills were demonstrated, the missive continues, both in bilateral interaction and in the SADC, where Lieutenant-General Moyo chaired the Ministerial Committee of the SADC Organ for Cooperation in the areas of Politics, Defence and Security, as well as in the African Union and in the United Nations, where as he defended the creation of consensus alongside the sovereign interests of his beloved country.
“As we deplore the death of this fighter for the freedom and progress of Zimbabwe, on behalf of the People and Government of the Republic of Mozambique and myself, I would like to convey our heartfelt condolences to You, Your Excellency and Dear Brother, to the people and the Government of Zimbabwe and, through them, to the bereaved family,” President Nyusi concludes.
