Mozambique: UN warns of "relentless cascade of emergencies"

The Mozambican Ministry of Health today [January 19] reported four more Covid-19 deaths in the country: two in Maputo city and two in Maputo province. These are two female patients and two male patients whose ages vary from two months old [a baby] to 84 years of age. One death was declared on Sunday and three on Monday. This brings the total Covid-19 death toll in Mozambique to 253.
In the last 24 hours, Mozambique recorded a further 824 positive cases of COVID-19, bringing the cumulative number of patients to 28.270,, of which 27,954 are of local transmission and 316 imported.
The City of Maputo recorded 411 of the announced 824 newly diagnosed cases, corresponding to 49.9% of the total of new cases reported today across the country. It was followed by Maputo Province with 104 new cases, corresponding to 12.6%.
MISAU reported today that 24 patients have been hospitalised in the last 24 hours, of which 14 in Maputo city, six in Tete province, two in Gaza and two in Maputo province.
Meanwhile, from Monday to Tuesday, a further 22 patients were discharged from hospital: 16 in Maputo city, five in Zambézia and one in Tete province
Also in the last 24 hours there were 252 more people who have recovered from COVID-19, bringing the number of recoveries in the country to 19.132.
Mozambique currently has 8.881 active cases, of which 4.284 are in Maputo city.
