Cabo Verde’s foreign minister and defence minister, Luís Filipe Tavares, on Tuesday asked the prime minister to resign from his post, which was accepted, according to a government note sent to Lusa.
The note, without giving any official reason for the resignation, three months away from legislative elections, states that the prime minister accepted and will present the president with the name of the new minister for foreign affairs and minister for defence.
“The government is grateful for the dedication and spirit shown by Luís Filipe Tavares during the period he held high government posts,” the note said.
The resignation takes place on the same day that the Cape Verdean president set the date for the legislative elections for 18 April and the presidential elections for 17 October.
