Three children were raped in the city of Nampula on the 1st of January, two of them male. Also on the first day of the year, 42 victims of road traffic accidents, mostly motorcyclists, were admitted to Nampula Central Hospital.
The rape victims are aged between five and nine years old. Dalva Khossa, a spokeswoman for Nampula Central Hospital emergency services, called on parents and guardians to supervise their children and never leave them unattended, either indoors or out.
Regarding road accidents on the first day of the year, mostly involving motorcyclists, Khossa said that some of the victims were children.
The toll of incidents also included 29 assaults.
Since the 24th of December, and ending on the 5th of January, Nampula Central Hospital has not handled any cases involving external consultations.
