Mozambique: Chapo promises to solve outstanding wage problems

President Filipe Nyusi, today inaugurated the new bridge over the Montepuez River, in the Administrative Post of Bilibiza, Quissanga district, Cabo Delgado province.
The inauguration of the infrastructure marks the reopening of road traffic over the Montepeuz river after the collapse of the former bridge a year ago, on 27 December 2019.

“Despite the great security challenge we are facing as a result of terrorist attacks, life in Cabo Delgado province has not stopped,” reads a communique on the Presidency’s official Facebook page (see below).
“This Monday, December 28, we inaugurated the new bridge over the Montepuez River, in the administrative post of Bilibiza, Quissanga district, replacing the old one that collapsed as a result of heavy rains and river overflow” the President says in the statement.
“With a cost of 817 million meticais [around US$10.9 million, at current exchange rates]. financed by our government, this metallic bridge built on National Road Number 380 has 225 metres in length and a maximum load capacity of 50 tons. This bridge is extremely important for the development of the province and the country, as well as for assistance to the [internally] displaced [people], given that it allows connection to districts such as Macomia, Muidumbe, Mueda, Nangade, Mocímboa da Praia and Palma, which had [so far] been accessible with restrictions and deprived of various services,” said the President.

“We call for the conservation of this infrastructure, respecting the load limits imposed by the authorities,” Nyusi concludes in the communique.

After the inauguration of the bridge over the Montepuez River, the Mozambican Head of State will witness the delivery ceremony by the provincial secretary of state of 17 vehicles .
In this visit to the province of Cabo Delgado, the President of the Republic is accompanied by the Minister of Public Works, Housing and Water Resources, João Osvaldo Machatine; by members of staff of the Presidency of the Republic and of other State institutions.
