Screen grab: Miramar
The leader of the self-proclaimed Renamo military junta, Mariano Nhongo, has denounced the kidnapping of members of his family allegedly by members of Mozambique’s Defence and Security Forces.
Nhongo alleges that his two sons, three grandchildren and a daughter-in-law were abducted at the Inchope Administrative Post in Gondola district, Manica province.
Police in Manica, through their head of public relations, Mário Arnança, deny that the Defence and Security Forces have kidnapped any of Nhongo’s family.
“We have no reports of kidnapping in the whole of Manica province. He [Nhongo] must come to the police station and file a complaint,
and then we will investigate,” Arnança told Miramar.
Arnança added that Mariano Nhongo must come to his senses and join the process of disarmament, demobilization and reintegration.
The conflict in the central region of the country has been going on for over a year, so far with no consensus.
