The president of Mozambique and the Japanese minister of foreign affairs discussed bilateral cooperation in Maputo on Thursday, in what was the first visit to Africa by the Japanese minister, the Mozambican government said ton Thursday.
Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mozambique Verónica Macamo was speaking to the media moments after a meeting between Filipe Nyusi and Toshimitsu Motegi in Maputo.
During the meeting, the two leaders discussed the stage of cooperation between Mozambique and Japan, as well as the response to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“What Japan has offered Mozambique in the fight against Covid-19 has been a great help”, minister Macamo stressed, adding that her Japanese counterpart congratulated Mozambique on the strategy adopted against the pandemic.
The Embassy of Japan in a brief statement posted on its Facebook page (below) reports that “ the two leaders addressed various issues, including bilateral cooperation between Japan and Mozambique, Japanese investment, the Nacala Port Development Project as well as the “Free and Open Indo-Pacific ” project.
