"AvóDezanove e o Segredo do Soviético" is an adaptation of Onjaki's novel, in which the author draws inspiration from his childhood memories to build a fantasy where reality and magic blend. Everything takes place in a city beyond Time and Geography, in an unidentified neighbourhood, which thus gains almost mythological contours. This is where Jaki lives, in a house full of cousins ruled with an iron hand by grandmother Agnette and haunted by the mysterious figure of grandmother Catarina.
Life in the neighbourhood and its resident castles, which have names like Espuma do Mar, revolves around the construction of the Mausoleum of a deceased President. But this imposing monument ends up threatening the quiet and orderly life that everyone leads when the authorities announce that the houses in the neighbourhood have to be dynamited for the work to be finished. At the same time, grandmother Agnette suffers an infection in one foot and has to be operated on, losing a finger and gaining a new nickname: AvóDezanove.
Her operation inspires Jaki. Just as he had to remove his finger to save his leg, he and his best friend Pi decide to remove the Mausoleum to save the neighbourhood. It is a miraculous (and unconscious) plan that involves the use of dynamite from the work to "desold" the monument. A plan doomed to failure, were it not for the unexpected intervention of a Soviet full of secrets.
