Mozambique: Strategic use of geospatial technologies can respond to extreme weather events

Malawi’s Deputy Minister of Defence Honourable Jean Sendeza has said that Malawi is always committed to ensure that there is peace and stability in the SADC region.
Speaking to the media on Thursday after attending the Ministerial Committee of the Organ, Defence and Security, ahead of the Extraordinary Troika Summit in Gaborone Botswana, Sendeza said that Malawi as a member of SADC will support all efforts by the Organ to ensure that peace is maintained and enjoyed in the region.
Sendeza said that Malawi’s commitment for peace is demonstrated in the fact that it is one of the Troop Contributing Country (TCC)
“Malawi is always committed to ensure that we have peace in the region and in the meeting we have supported all proposals that will ensure that peace is maintained,” said Sendeza.

The Ministerial Committee of the Organ preceded the extraordinary Troika Summit, which will take place today, Friday.
State President of the republic of Malawi His Excellency Dr Lazarus Chakwera is expected to be among the leaders attending the summit.
Malawi is one the three Troop Contributing Countries others are South Africa and the United Republic of Tanzania.
The Ministerial Committee meeting was opened by the Chairperson of the Organ, Honourable Dr Lemogans Kwape, Botswana Minister of International Affairs and Cooperation.
In his speech Dr Kwape said that SADC should not ignore the nascent terrorism menace, which is ripening in the region.
He called on Ministers to be focused and come up with a robust regional response to terrorism and the adoption of an early warning system.
Dr Kwape also said that SADC has made a number of consultations meetings with the United Nations , the Democratic Republic of Congo, the Force Intervention Brigade (FIB) and troop Contributing Countries over the issue of reconfiguration of the FIB.
SADC to Tackle Emerging Security Issues
Principal Secretary for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Lucky Sikwese has said that the extraordinary Southern Africa Development Community (SADC)Troika Summit for Defence and Security Organ, which will take place on Friday 27th November in Gaborone Botswana aims at finding solutions to some emerging security challenges the region is facing.
Speaking in Gaborone Botswana on Thursday, ahead of the Summit Sikwese said that the summit will tackle issues of some pockets of terrorism in the region especially in Mozambique and the proposed change in the Force Intervention Brigade (FIB) in Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC).
“The leaders will discuss how the Regional group should tackle terrorism attacks in northern Mozambique and the proposal by the United Nations to make some changes in the Force Intervention Brigade” said Sikwese.
Sikwese said the urgency of the matter at hand has moved the regional grouping to call for a physical meeting despite the Covid-19 epidemic.
“The two security issues are crucial for the continued peace in the region, hence the Chairperson of the Troika His Excellency Dr Mokgweetsi Eric Keabetswe Masisi president of the Republic of Botswana find it necessary to call for this extraordinary meeting”, said Sikwese
Sikwese further said that the state President of the Republic of Malawi His Excellency Dr Lazarus Chakwera will arrive in Botswana on Friday morning for the meeting and return home to Malawi the same day.
Other heads of States expected to attend the summit are Presidents of : United Republic of Tanzania, South Africa, Democratic Republic of Congo, Mozambique, Botswana and Zimbabwe.
