The board of directors of the Assembly of the Republic, the Mozambican parliament, yesterday presented a budget proposal of 22.7 million euros (US$26.9 million] for parliamentary expenditure in 2021, €7.5 million more than this year.
The document was presented by the chairman of the Parliament’s Board of Directors, Deputy Hélder Injonjo. It allocates the largest share of expenditure to “other personnel expenses”, an item expected to receive 995 million meticais (€11.3 million).
The document foresees expenses in the order of 203 million meticais (€2.3 million) for salaries and wages.
In investment costs, the 2021 parliamentary budget proposal foresees 184 million meticais (about €2 million) for circulating means [vehicles], maintenance of infrastructure and information and communication technologies.
Hélder Injonjo said that “next year’s budget was prepared based on the following assumptions: strengthening the connection between deputies and constituencies, consolidating the legislative function and strengthening the supervisory function”.
The debate on the parliament budget proposal for 2021 started yesterday and will be voted on through a resolution to be presented by the parliament’s board of directors.
For 2020, the Mozambican legislative body approved a budget of 1,346 million meticais (€15.2 million euros).
