It’s confirmed. Gabriel Ismael Salimo is no longer part of Filipe Jacinto Nyusi’s second government, as constituted in January. This Tuesday, the Presidency of the Republic issued a press release announcing the appointment of Daniel Daniel Nivagara as his replacement in the post of Minister of Science, Technology and Higher Education.
It will be recalled that Salimo was dismissed last Tuesday, November 17th, together with Agostinho Francisco Langa Júnior, then Secretary of Technical-Professional Education, as part of the restructuring of that ministry. However, unlike Agostinho Langa Júnior, who was reappointed, Gabriel Salimo was not.
After his dismissal, the idea took shape that the former Minister of Science, Technology and Technical-Professional Education was excluded because he was a member of Renamo. In fact, Gabriel Ismael Salimo previously worked at the Technical Secretariat for Electoral Administration (STAE), in its Department of Informatics, and was indeed indicated for that post by the largest opposition party.
It is worth noting also that this is the first member of the Council of Ministers to “fall” in the second and last term of Filipe Jacinto Nyusi, 10 months after the new government was constituted.
