Portugal’s Prime Minister António Costa has offered his country’s support for Mozambique in the fight against terrorism in Cabo Delgado province, both within the European Union and bilaterally.
António Costa made his offer in a telephone contact with President Filipe Jacinto Nyusi yesterday.
President Nyusi updated the Portuguese government on the terrorist actions, and thanked Portugal for its solidarity, including within the European Parliament.

The Mozambican head of state expressed particularly gratitude for the latest letter from the President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa of Portugal, who sympathises with Mozambicans in the face of the latest terrorist attacks in Muidumbe district. The two leaders agreed to decide in detail on the type of support to be provided, taking into account bilateral agreements already in force.
The conversation also covered the Covid-19 situation in the respective countries, with the Portuguese prime minister encouraging President Nyusi to continue the prevention measures currently in force here.
Mozambique also requested Portugal’s help acquiring a vaccine, as soon as it is available.
