The Mozambican health authorities on Sunday announced a further death from the Covid-19 respiratory disease, and 56 new cases.
According to a Ministry of Health press release, the latest victim was a 40 year old Mozambican woman who had been hospitalised in a Maputo health unit. Her condition did not improve, and she died on Saturday. This brings the Covid-19 death toll in Mozambique to 124.
On Saturday(November 21), MISAU had reported two more deaths registered in the city of Maputo of a woamn and a man, 68 and 74 years old, both of Mozambican nationality, who were declared dead on the 20th and 21st, respectively, after their health condition worsened during the hospitalisation period in a hospital. hospital unit in the city of Maputo, announced the Ministry of Health (MISAU) in a statement sent to “O País”.
According to the MISAU Saturday communiqué, in the previous 24 hours, 1,542 suspected cases had been tested in the country, of which 1,438 had come back negative and 104 positive for Covid-19, bringing the number of infected people to 14,981. All new chaos are locally transmitted.
“Of the new cases reported today, 98 are Mozambicans and six are foreigners. One case is individual if South African nationality, one case is an Italian national, two cases are Indian nationals and two cases are Portuguese nationals ”, said MISAU on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the Sunday release said that, since the start of the pandemic, 222,321 people have been tested for the coronavirus, 2,053 of them in the previous 24 hours.
Of the samples tested, 939 were from Maputo city, 286 from Cabo Delgado, 256 from Zambezia, 129 from Maputo province, 113 from Sofala, 103 from Nampula, 95 from Gaza, 70 from Tete, 57 from Inhambane, four from Manica, and one from Niassa.
1,997 of these tests gave negative results, and 56 people tested positive for the coronavirus. This brings the number of positive cases diagnosed in Mozambique to 15,037. Of the new cases, 47 are Mozambicans, three are South Africans, two are Turkish citizens, one is Burundian, one Portuguese and one Spanish.
34 are male and 22 are female. One is a child under the age of 15, ten are youths aged 15 to 24, and 45 are between 24 and 64 years old. In two cases, no age information was available.
Over half the cases (35) were from Maputo city. There were also 11 cases from Zambezia, three from Maputo province, three from Cabo Delgado, three from Nampula, and one from Tete.
In line with standard Health Ministry procedure, all the new cases are in home isolation and their contacts are being traced.
In the previous 24 hours, four Covid-19 patients were discharged from hospital, and two new patients were admitted, all in Maputo city. There are currently 35 people under medical care in the Covid-19 isolation wards (32 in Maputo, one in Sofala, one in Zambezia and one in Tete).
No recoveries from Covid-19 were reported in this 24 hour period. The total number of recoveries, since the first case was diagnosed on 22 March, thus remains 13,151 (87.5 per cent of all those diagnosed with the coronavirus).
There are now 1,758 active Covid-19 cases. As of Sunday, they were distributed as follows: Maputo city, 1,518; Maputo province, 55; Cabo Delgado, 38; Nampula, 29; Sofala, 28; Manica, 23; Inhambane, 23; Gaza, 22; Zambezia, 14; Niassa, five; Tete, three.
Thus Maputo city and province account for 89.5 per cent of all active cases.
