Eduardo Mondlane University (UEM) has suspended the university clinic operating concession contract signed on May 20, 2020 with the company Affinity Health, SA, managed by Rogério Uthui, a professor at that educational institution.
The contract was suspended after the Public Integrity Centre (CIP) recently questioned the awarding process.
The CIP alleges irregularities in the awarding of the contract, suggesting yet another direct award without due justification. However, the UEM claims to have employed a contest with previous qualification, for which several companies were invited to submit proposals, Affinity Health, SA being selected only after evaluation.
According to UEM, the suspension of the contract will facilitate the review and correction of problems detected in the process.
The decision to suspend the contract was made known during a meeting between the UEM, represented by Rector Orlando Quilambo, the Director of the University Foundation, Pedro Búfalo, technicians from the Directorate of Finance, Centre of Public Integrity (CIP) director Edson Cortez and CIP researchers in the area of procurement and public private partnerships Borges Nhamirre and Aldemiro Bande.
