Mozambique: Maputo province to register around 25,000 young people for military service - photos

Her Majesty’s Deputy Trade Commissioner for Africa, Alastair Long, will virtually visit Maputo on 19th November 2020.
During his visit, Mr. Long will hold meetings with Ministry of Natural Resources and Energy Permanent Secretary H.E. Teodoro Candido Vales, Permanent Secretary for the Minister of Land and Environment H.E. Emilia Dique Fumo and key players in the agro industrial, land mapping and renewable energy sectors such as Maragra Sugar (An Associated British Foods Company), AgDevCo, Ordnance Survey and Globeleq.
Mr. Long has co-chaired a semi-virtual webinar with the Mozambican Minister of Trade, HE Carlos Mesquita, UK Prime Minister Trade Envoy for Mozambique, H.E. Katherine Fletcher MP and moderated by H.E. NneNne Iwuji, British High Commissioner to Mozambique.
The discussion was around solutions for promoting the inclusion of Mozambican agro industrial value chains in new LNG projects in the country, and their role in Mozambique’s socio-economic development. A total of $46 million in new private investment in the agro industrial sector was announced at the event.

Mr Long also announced that the UK-Africa Investment Conference will take place on the 20th of January 2021 to keep the momentum and amplify the work done so far and support a green recovery post-COVID19.
During his visit, Alastair Long said:
“It was great to see that Trade between Mozambique and the UK increased 45% last yea and that the UK-Africa Investment Summit catalysed $ 46 million of new private investment in the agro industrial sector. It all comes as the result of both governments commitment to foster partnerships.”
Total trade in goods and services (i.e. exports plus imports) between the UK and Mozambique was $538 Million by the end of 2019, an increase of 45.0% and, as a follow up of the UK-Africa Investment Summit held in January 2020. Africa investment summit aimed at promoting trade between Mozambique and the UK and strengthening the relationships between the two countries.
Alastair Long invited Mozambique to attend to the Ambition Climate summit on the 12 December and the Virtual Africa Investment Conference taking place in January 2021 as a follow-up to the UK – Africa Investment Conference. These events will amplify the great commercial work done so far by both governments.

Alastair Long is Her Majesty’s Deputy Trade Commissioner for Africa based in Cairo. He leads on UK trade and investment promotion across the whole African continent.
Alastair was previously the Regional Director for Trade & Investment for the Middle East, Afghanistan and Pakistan based in Dubai, and then the Director for Trade and Investment for Saudi Arabia and Her Majesty’s Deputy Trade Commissioner for the Middle East, Afghanistan and Pakistan.
While Regional Trade Director he was at the same time Deputy Consul General in Dubai and before that the Deputy Ambassador in Oman.
Alastair joined the UK Government at the turn of the century working in a number of Foreign Office and latterly Department for International Trade roles. Alastair was educated at Cambridge University (Clare College) and the London Guildhall School of Music and Drama. He is a trumpet player, singer, football fan (Manchester United).
