The National Institute for Disaster Management (INGC) is facing a shortfall of 6.4 billion meticais (US$87.1 million) in addressing the challenges of internally displaced persons (IDPs) and climatic events accompanying the present rainy season.
At the moment, the INGC has on hand only 800 million of the 7.4 billion meticais (US$23.1 million) projected in the contingency plan needed to assist the approximately 1.7 million people foreseen country-wide.
The information was provided by the Deputy Director-General of the National Institute for Disaster Management, Gabriel Monteiro.
“The financial effort will be increased compared to previous contingency plans, although that will require a mobilisation effort vis-à-vis our partners, which we hope will be successful,” he said.
This year’s INGC plan covers assistance to victims of armed attacks in the central and northern regions of the country along with responses to the new coronavirus pandemic.
