Mozambique: Lightning strikes cause 17 deaths in Zambézia

Mozambique has registered 55 new cases of infection with the new coronavirus in the last 24 hours, bringing the total to 13,823, with 99 deaths, the Ministry of Health announced on Monday.
“Of the cases reported today, 54 are of Mozambican nationality and one a foreigner, from Eswatini,” said Benigna Matsinhe, deputy director of Public Health during the data update.
Mozambique has a total of 99 deaths, with 13,823 people infected, of which 13,519 are of local transmission and 304 cases are imported.
She also said that 54 more people are given as recovered, bringing the total to 11,659 (84%), with a total of 515 hospitalised patients.
The city of Maputo, the country’s capital, continues to register the highest number of active cases, with 1,640, followed by Cabo Delgado province with 169, and the remaining nine provinces register less than 100 cases.
A total of 202,742 suspected cases have been tested in Mozambique since the first case was announced on 22 March.
