Mozambique: Authorities warn of 'large-scale' flooding risk in next rainy season
VOA Portugues reports that 10 Mozambican civilians were seriously injured over the weekend in Nangade district, in the Mozambican province of Cabo Delgado, after being hit by shrapnel from the explosion of several rockets launched by the Tanzanian army, which were allegedly targeting insurgents in the woods.of the Rovuma River, several witnesses told VOA on Monday.
The Tanzanian army has been randomly launching heavy weaponry fire on the border with Mozambique and directed at its neighbouring country, since the last week of October, with two more recent explosions reaching the village of Mandimba, about eight kilometres from the town of Nangade.

village affected by the rockets hosts thousands of displaced people who have fled attacks by insurgents in areas further south of Nangade, such as the districts of Palma and Mocímboa da Praia.
Witness reports
“Since the time the insurgents entered Kitaya (Tanzanian province of Mtwara), then the Tanzanian army is always firing rockets, especially at night for that area of the Rovuma River, every night,” said resident Razak Ninte.
On Saturday, October 31, the resident continued, five people were seriously injured by the blast of a rocket in the village of Mandimba.
Another five people had been hit by artifacts on Thursday, October 29 during another explosion.
“Some of the injured were taken to Nangade district hospital and others went to hospitals in Tanzania because they were more serious,” said Razak Ninte, who helped rescue some of the injured to hospital on the day of the explosion.
Another survivor said the shots by the Tanzanian army had caused panic among local residents and forced many displaced people to leave the village of Mandimba and settle in the town of Nangade.
“We do not know what the motivations are, whether it is a way to chase away the insurgents or a way of defending themselves (from next attacks) or even retaliation, we do not know for sure,” Rassul Saide added, in statements to VOA. He further said that, since Saturday, new incidents were recorded.
VOA contacted the Cabo Delgado Police spokesman, via the usual number of communications with the press, but without success.
In mid-October, a group of insurgents operating in Cabo Delgado attacked the village of Kitaya, in southern Tanzania, causing the death of 20 people, including a beheaded military man, in the invasion of an army camp.
The attack, claimed by the Islamic State at the time, was confirmed by the Tanzanian Police on 22 October, stating that a group of 300 jihadists carried out the attack on a village on the border with Mozambique.
New attack and abductions
Still according to the reports of residents, the village of Lissulo, close to thedistrict capital of Nangade, was invaded by a group of insurgents on Thursday, October 29, who killed one person and wounded two others, who were later rescued to the Mueda rural hospital.
During the attack, insurgents captured eight other people, including a woman, who were later released and returned to the village over the weekend.
