The Confederation of Economic Associations of Mozambique (CTA) today applauded the end of the quarantine restrictions for those entering the country with a negative Covid-19 test.
“The mandatory quarantine was an obstacle to the adequate recovery of economic activity,” the business association notes in a communique. “This measure exempts travellers who present a negative test produced in the previous 72 hours from going into quarantine.”
The measure was announced on Thursday by President Filipe Nyusi in an address to the nation in which he also announced the resumption of the issuing of tourist visas.
In addition, children up to 11 years of age are exempted from taking a test to enter the country.
Filipe Nyusi announced that the validity of the test required to leave and then return to the country (multiple entries) would be extended to 14 days from the date of the sample collection.
Despite the gradual easing of restrictions, the Mozambican head of state called on the country to continue to observe preventative measures, warning that Mozambican authorities had been instructed to step up enforcement.
Mozambique is in general maintaining the restrictions in place over the last six months, with the emphasis on the mandatory use of masks and the ban on mass gatherings.
Since the announcement of its first case on March 22, the country has recorded a total of 12,525 cases and 91 deaths, with 10,001 people (79% of cases) accounted fully recovered, according to Thursday’s Ministry of Health update.
