The cardiopulmonary ward at Maputo Central Hospital, the largest in the country, officially reopened yesterday after modernisation works budgeted at 15 million meticais (€175,000), the institution has announced.
The rehabilitation has modernised the cardiopulmonary ward and improved the pharmacy, consultation and treatment rooms and the oxygen system, a statement from the hospital explains.
A portable X-ray machine and viewing box, a portable ventilator and incubator cots were also purchased and installed, in addition to security camera and fire monitoring systems, the note adds.
The rehabilitation works were financed by Millennium Bim.
“The support is proof of the bank’s commitment to Mozambican society and the creation and implementation of continuous sustainable projects aimed at the well-being and improvement of the quality of life of the population,” chairman of the Millennium Bim board of directors José Reino da Costa declared.
The Maputo Central Hospital is the largest in the country, with seven clinical departments and an average of 900 visitors a day. Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, the hospital is favouring consultations off-site, and is currently receiving only 300 to 400 visitors daily.
