Terrorists on Monday murdered João Kilande Correia, a Police of the Republic of Mozambique (PRM) sergeant assigned to the Border Guard Unit.
According to Carta de Moçambique sources, the sergeant was killed during an attack on a village in Punanhar administrative post, Palma district. Pundanhar is on the banks of the Rovuma River, which separates Mozambique from Tanzania.
The Carta sources allege that some of the terrorists attacking the village were from neighbouring Tanzania, and that “it is suspected that this is the same group that attacked the village of Kitaya, in Mtwara, not far from our own border”.
The victim’s body was found on Wednesday. João Kilande Correia had been in the PRM since 1999.
Carta sources say that one more person was killed during the attack.
