Mozambique Elections: NGO welcomes court ruling that prohibits internet blocking
Mozambique’s Doctor’s Association and Medical Association on Tuesday complained about the lack of protective material for health professionals against Covid-19, demanding a new strategy from the Ministry of Health.
“In a survey of 139 doctors carried out by the Mozambican Medical Association due to the outbreak of the pandemic in the country, it was found that more than half of these professionals had not received complete and adequate individual protection material for their functions in the last seven days. This situation is serious,” said a joint statement by both associations.
For them, the recent death, by Covid-19, of Doctor Guilherme Mujovo, one of the advisors to the health minister, Armindo Tiago, who was also infected, shows the fragility of the health system in terms of protecting professionals in the area.
“If our national health system has not been able to protect such a renowned professional, what will become of young professionals? What will become of the population living on the poverty line?” they said.
Both entities ask for urgent measures to improve the situation of doctors.
“Mozambican society and institutions should reflect on the national health service that we intend to build”, they said.
Since March, Mozambique has registered a total of 12,161 cases of coronavirus, 88 deaths and 9,254 (76%) people given as recovered, according to the latest updates.
