The Maputo Fast Forward (MFF) festival kicks off today with an ‘online’ edition which will debate climate change and the rise of artificial intelligence, themes that the Covid-19 pandemic has given greater visibility, the organization announces.
Watch their first webinar LIVE below.
“Human factor and the future of life on the planet: from climate change to artificial intelligence” is the theme of the festival’s fifth edition.
“The current pandemic has made it possible, unexpectedly, to give added visibility to two tectonic movements of great amplitude which were outlined over the past decades and make clear the epic dimension of the challenges that humanity faces,” announces the organization, a creativity platform promoted by the Mozambican company Qideia with Swiss support.
The programme includes daily webinars with guest speakers for sessions scheduled for 6:00 p.m. until Friday, October 10, through MFF’s Internet channels.
“Mitigating the impacts of global warming” in the face of the inevitability of “climate cataclysm” is one of the theme of the event, organized in a country – Mozambique – which is among the most vulnerable to natural disasters.
The country is often hit by cyclones, but rarely with the destructive force of Idai in March 2019 and Kenneth in April of the same year, which together caused 649 deaths and destroyed much infrastructure.
The programme also includes, on 2 and 4 November, a webinar on “How to combat disinformation” led by Paulo Agostinho, editor of Lusofonia and África na Lusa.
During MFF 2020, a new monthly online publication will be launched, complementing the current Radar, and focused on creativity and innovation.
