A court in Beira has granted provisional release to all six defendants recently arrested by the police for alleged involvement in kidnappings.
A meeting of Beira business people will tomorrow consider the spate of abductions in this part of the country and afterwards issue a public statement at press conference scheduled for 10 a.m. at the Beira Terrace Hotel.

Lawyer José Mussequejua tells Miramar that the possibility of provisional release is provided for by Mozambican law and therefore normal in the Mozambican judicial system, explaining that a judge might do so whenever he or she considers that there is no risk of flight or interference in the investigation process.

Miramar interviewed Dada Ismael after his release on bail. He is among the six detainees now released, accused of involvement in the abductions of business people.
Dada Ismael denied any participation whatsoever in such crime, saying he was surprised by his arrest and unaware of any reason why the authorities in Sofala might suspect him of involvement.
