Mozambique: President holds telephone conversation with South African counterpart

The President of the Republic and Acting President of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), Filipe Jacinto Nyusi, has had a telephone conversation with his South African counterpart and Chairperson of the African Union (AU), Cyril Ramaphosa, within the framework of bilateral and multilateral consultations.
During the conversation yesterday afternoon, 14 October 2020, the two heads of state exchanged information on the evolution of Covid-19 in the region, the lessons learned, and its socio-economic impact. The leaders concluded that their efforts should always continue to defend the lives of citizens.
On the same occasion, the two statesmen addressed the socio-economic situation of their countries, the region, and the continent in general, as well as aspects related to the development of international cooperation.
During the conversation, the heads of state exchanged information on the current security situation in the SADC, especially on the issue of terrorism and other threats, with President Nyusi updating the South African president on the security situation in Mozambique.
Both President Nyusi and President Ramaphosa have pledged to continue to consult regularly and to support each other in the exercise of their functions as Chairperson of the SADC and Chairperson of the African Union respectively.
