Jazz lovers will be flocking to the giant tent on the University Eduardo Mondlane campus in Maputo tonight to soak up the unmistakable sounds of smooth jazz maestro George Benson in a long-awaited live concert.
Benson landed at Maputo International Airport Tuesday afternoon beaming with joy at the prospect of playing Mozambique, and saying that he could not be more pleased with the anticipation Mozambicans were conveying to him.
“My first impression is of great pleasure, because the people here are very warm and they seem to be ready for my show. I could not ask for anything better than that,” the guitarist said.
Regarding his set, the American musician will indeed play the songs he is best-known for, but hints that he will be playing new material as well.
“I think people are waiting for the songs that they know. I came here to play all those and more. I‘m happy to be here and play what the audience wants to hear.”
The concert will feature Seth Suaze and Majescoral as guests.
George Benson will be joined on stage by Stanley Bank (bass), David Garfield e Thom Hall (keyboards), Michael O´Neill (guitar and voicer), Khari Parker (drums) e Lilliana de los Reyes (percussion and voice).
The concert begins at 7pm.
