Repatriation of Mozambican refugees in Nsanje and Chikwawa, Malawi, postponed

The Commander-in-Chief of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique has encouraged the Defence and Security Forces to returning peace and tranquillity to communities in Cabo Delgado province.
Bernardino Rafael, who was on his way to the sixth battalion of the Rapid Intervention Unit, welcomed the determination and bravery of the corporation, which, in addition to guaranteeing the protection of economic activity on the Afungi peninsula, recovered the island of Vamizi, which had been taken by terrorists.
In addition to Vamizi Island, the Defence and Security Forces have displaced terrorists from Vumba, Quifungo and Mitundo Islands in Cabo Delgado province.
The PRM Commander-in-Chief visited the district of Palma, in the far north of Cabo Delgado, in compliance with one of the guidelines [issued] by the Commander in Chief of the Defence and Security Forces, Filipe Nyusi.
Bernardino Rafael said that the challenge of effectively restoring the circulation of people and goods in the central and northern regions of the province was being addressed.
FDS capture insurgents in Palma
Palma district PRM commander Arquimedes Dima meanwhile confirmed this Tuesday (22) that an unspecified number of terrorists had been detained, adding that all those captured were Mozambicans, some even residents of Palma.
“I cannot specify the exact number, but it is a considerable number, and they have already given important information that is helping us to fight the enemy,” Dima said.
While recognising that the security situation in the district as “complex”, the commander sought to reassure the population.
“We have positioned our forces at all places where the enemy is likely to enter, including the islands. Our team here in Palma has been overseeing the work of the Defence and Security Forces, which are working to restore peace,” he said.
