The Commander-General of the Police of the Republic of Mozambique, Bernardino Rafael, has denied at a press conference that the port and the town of Mocímboa da Praia, in Cabo Delgado, are under the control of terrorists.
Speaking in Pemba this Saturday, at a press conference, during his visit to the Province of Cabo Delgado, Rafael clarified that, although some villages or towns have been abandoned, there are none that are in the hands of the terrorists.
“There is no town taken as such, where they live and exercise. There are towns from where, due to the pressure of attacks, the population has moved, as in some villages […]. They are not in the hands of the terrorists, because we exercise increased control, [even if] we are not physically present in the ports and villages of Mocímboa da Praia,” Rafael explained.
The Commander-in-Chief of the Police added that the Defence and Security Forces were doing everything in their power to restore peace in Cabo Delgado, and in areas under attack by the self-proclaimed Renamo Military Junta in Manica and Sofala provinces.
