Prime Minister Carlos Agostinho do Rosário says that the government would welcome the idea of creating specific courts to try terrorism crimes in Mozambique.
Any Supreme Court decision, however, will depend on the Attorney General’s reasoning as proponent of the measure.
The request for the creation of specific courts came during Attorney General Beatriz Buchili’s presentation in parliament of her report on the general state of the nation.
These courts, Buchili said, would be charged exclusively with solving crimes related to terrorism, a novelty for the Mozambican judicial system.
The government, in the person of Prime Minister Carlos Agostinho do Rosário, guarantees to support the initiative.
Meanwhile, the President of the Supreme Court says that everything will depend on the PGR’s argument as the proponent.
Since 2017, dozens of people allegedly involved in the terrorist attacks in Cabo Delgado have been convicted.
