Although Mozambique has been producing energy for decades at Cahora Bassa Hydroelectric and other sources, many Mozambican families continue to live without electricity in their homes.
As the worst-supplied by the national energy network, rural areas already receive some attention from the government, according to the Minister for Mineral Resources and Energy.
“There are, in total, 135 administrative post headquarters [villages] still without electricity and, to remedy this, 21 projects are underway across the country,” Minister Max Tonela said on Friday in Massinga district, Inhambane province.
Max Tonela visited various electrical infrastructures and gave assurances to those still without access to energy.
“In the province of Inhambane, of the seven headquarters of administrative posts without electricity, four will be electrified through the extension of the national electricity network and three will be supplied through alternative sources,”he said.
Extensions of the electricity network are being carried out under the government’s Energy for All programme.
