President Nyusi received a delegation from French major Total, led by the company’s Chairman and CEO Patrick Pouyanné. The meeting took place this Saturday at the Office of the President of the Republic, in Maputo.
During the meeting, the two parties discussed the evolution of the liquefied natural gas project in Area 1 of the Rovuma Basin and welcomed the progress made in its implementation, namely the securance of the necessary financial resources, the contracts and the execution of works, which is progressing at good pace despite initial challenges arising from COVID-19, according to a statement by the Presidency of the Republic,
Total reaffirmed its full commitment to continue executing the project in accordance with the envisaged program and goals, having thanked the President of the Republic and his Government for the support and engagement which gave way to the current progress.
According to the statement, “the meeting also addressed the issue of communication routes and the ongoing efforts to replace bridges and access roads affected by natural disasters”.
“Another topic addressed at the audience relates to the parties’ commitment to enable the training and skills development of local workers, as well as measures to promote local content in Total’s LNG project, within the framework of the long-term partnership that is consolidating, ” reads the statement.
The two parties, according to the Presidency, expressed their commitment and desire to maintain a fluid communication, in order to enable the successful implementation of the project, proposing to create a high level articulation mechanism.
