The Mozambican Minister of Labour, Employment and Social Security, Vitoria Diogo, announced on Monday that Mozambique would ratify the International Labour Organization (ILO) Convention on Labour Inspection by the end of this year.
Victoria Diogo was addressing delegates from over 180 member ILO countries at the plenary session of the 105th International Labour Conference in Geneva, Switzerland.
The minister, who is leading a tripartite delegation representing government, employers and trade unions, said the country was improving the institutional capacity of labour inspectorates to ensure compliance by the private sector.
Minister Diogo went on to say that the country reaffirmed its commitment to prohibiting forced labour in any form, and will send the ILO convention on forced labour to parliament for ratification.
In relation to other sector issues such as the promotion of employment, vocational training, resolution of labour disputes and social security, the minister said that Mozambique continued to be guided by social dialogue.
The minister explained that this dialogue is the joint search for solutions at the level of the Consultative Labour Commission, through which the government, together with employers’ and workers’ representatives expressed their commitment to dialogue.
She cited as an example the consultation process for future employment policy in the country, which had the support of the ILO, whose validation of the draft took place on May 30 in an event presided over by President Filipe Nyusi.
