For the fifth time, insurgents on Sunday night raided Manica, the headquarters village of Mucojo administrative post in Macomia district, Cabo Delgado.
The unknown number of insurgents did not cause fatalities or kidnap any local residents, but stole goats and other food products, according to sources from the Mucojo district capital.
Residents were taken by surprise after days of calm, and took refuge in the woods. The attack has constrained transport to and from Macomia, for fear of continuing insurgent presence.
“I’m from Mucojo. All the vehicles are coming back, just like us – we turned back in Manica because of the attack,” a fishwife who left Pangane for Macomia on Monday morning said.
She was completely frustrated at the possibility of her entire stock going to rot. “The insurgents stayed until around noon,” she complained.
According to her, Pangane village continues to receive refugees from the islands, adding to fears of rising food needs, particularly with regard to food support.
