The department of Immigration in the Eastern Region on Monday on Mnday (August 31) deported five Mozambicans and five Tanzanians who were doing illegal mining in Machinga.
Eastern Region Immigration Officer Vivian Kasambo confirmed the development to Kulinj News in an interview at Chiponde Boarder in Mangochi.
“It’s true that we have apprehended these immigrants after being tipped by the well wishers that these people are doing mining in Machinga,” he said.
Kasambo added that through boarder sweeping operations they have also managed to apprehend 16 Malawians from Katema who were trafficked to Mozambique in Lichinga district for farming purposes.
“During this time when we are approaching rainy season issues of human trafficking become common, these people were heading to Mozambique through Makanjira led by one Malawian and his friend from Mozambique,” he explained.
He then assured the public that their office will continue working hard in making sure that no illegal immigrants enter the country.
Kasambo then commended communities for providing tips to the officers saying working together will help to develop the country.
