The Ministry of Health announced on Sunday that Mozambique recorded another death from Ccovid-19, bringing the total to 23, on a day when 61 more new infections were reported, bringing the total number of cases rose to 3,821,
The 46-year-old man died on Saturday afternoon at the Isolation Centre of the Polana Caniço General Hospital in Maputo city, after being admitted, first, to the Maputo Central Hospital, on Tuesday, with severe respiratory disease”, according to the pandemic data update statement, distributed by the Ministry of Health.
“During hospitalisation, his condition worsened,” the statement said.
On the day that the country recorded its 23rd death, health authorities announced 61 more new cases, bringing the total to 3,821, of which 3,560 are locally transmitted and 261 are imported.

Of the 61 new cases, 60 are of Mozambican nationality and one is a South African national.
Of the 61 newly diagnosed cases, 30 are in Maputo city 12 in Cabo Delgado, nine in Maputo province and six in Nampula province.
According to the statement, the authorities are currently seeking to identify possible contacts of the new infections.
The Ministry of Health also announced that a further 22 people were reported as recovered, bringing the total to 2,100 (55%), while another 12 people are hospitalised.
The city of Maputo, the country’s capital, has the highest number of active infections, with 1,068, followed by Cabo Delgado province, with 185, Nampula province, with 176, followed by the remaining regions with less than 150 active cases.
Mozambique has already tested a total of 94,696 suspected cases and just over 1.9 million people have been screened since the first infection was announced on 22 March.
The Covid-19 pandemic has already claimed at least 843,000 lives and infected more than 25 million people in 196 countries and territories.
In Africa, there are 29,430 confirmed deaths in more than 1.2 million people infected in 55 countries, according to the most recent statistics on the continent’s pandemic.
