The Ministry of Health (MISAU) yesterday afternoon announced 61 more positive Covid-19 results among the 564 tests performed in the previous 24 hours. All samples were processed in public sector laboratories.
A further 41 cases of total recovery were also reported on Thursday (August 28), bringing the total number to 1,968. The number of people in Mozambique free of the disease therefore exceeds half the number of cases registered.
The 61 newly diagnosed cases were registered in seven provinces of the country, namely Maputo city (33) ,Maputo province (12), Sofala (7), Nampula (5), Manica (2), Zambézia (1), and Gaza (1).
“Among these [new cases], we highlight the case of a child under the age of five, and three cases that are people over the age of 65. The 25-34 year old age group registered the highest number of cases (17),” National Director of Public Health Rosa Marlene revealed.
Speaking at a press conference, Marlene said that health authorities were monitoring patients currently “in isolation at home”, adding that 71 individuals were hospitalised with Covid-19 in Mozambique, nine of whom are under medical care in isolation centres, and suffering from “various chronic pathologies”.
The country had, by Thursday, recorded a total of 3,391 cases of local transmission and 260 imported, with 21 deaths, nine hospitalized and 1,968 recovered (53%), Marlene said.
Mozambique has performed 91,130 tests of suspected cases since the announcement of the first case of Covid-19 on March 22, and screened more than 1.9 million people. A total of 32,596 people suspected of being infected were placed in home quarantine, and 5,044 continue to be monitored by health authorities.
