Poachers killed about forty-five elephants in the Niassa Reserve in the first quarter of this year, ten more than in the same period last year.
The figure was released on Sunday in Metangula, village headquarters of Lago district, by Niassa Reserve administrator Cornelio Miguel on the sidelines of the World Environment Day celebrations on June 5.
Miguel reported that ten firearms had been seized so far this year and five criminal cases opened.
