Mozambique recorded, in the last 24 hours, 80 more Covid-19 confirmed cases, bringing the total to 3,195 and remaining with 20 deaths, the Ministry of Health reported today.
Of the 80 newly diagnosed cases reported today, six are under the age of 5, 79 are individuals of Mozambican nationality and one is a citizen of Portuguese nationality.
The new cases are geographically distributed as follows: Maputo city (37), Maputo province (20), Cabo Delgado (09), Nampula (09) Gaza (03), Manica (01) and Tete (01).
“The cases reported today are in isolation at home. The process of mapping their contacts is currently underway”, adds the statement.
Of the 3,195 infections that the country has already registered, 2,961 cases are of local transmission and 234 are imported.
The Ministry of Health further reports that there are currently 1,406 individuals (44%)who have fully recovered and 20 deaths.
The city of Maputo had the highest number of active infections, with 807, followed by the province of Maputo, with 318, and Nampula, with 239, with the remainder provinces following with less than 180 cases.
Since the announcement of the first case on March 22, the country has tested a total of 83,886 suspicious people and just over 1.8 million people have been screened.
The Covid-19 pandemic has already claimed at least 793,847 deaths and infected more than 22.7 million people in 196 countries and territories, according to a report by the French agency AFP.
The disease is transmitted by a new coronavirus detected in late December in Wuhan, a city in central China.
