Mozambique, Tanzania explore new business and investment opportunities
The option to work remotely, due to Covid-19, contributed to a 13% increase in the volume of telecommunications and postal services in Mozambique in the first half of this year, compared to the same period of 2019, the Ministry of Transport and Communications announced yesterday.
The increase is also the result of an increase in demand for telecommunications services made possible by the improvement in the quality of the telecommunications network, and its expansion in recent years.
“The increase in remote working that characterises the emergency period imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic has also contributed to these results,” the note reads.
In the postal sector, growth was driven by the increase in demand for postal services.
In addition to the expansion of the telecommunications network and consolidation of postal services, the sector is implementing several projects, with the emphasis on the migration from analogue to digital broadcasting and the provision of satellite television services and Internet access to 500 villages.
The country’s 2G and 3G mobile phone network unites all districts, covering 90% of administrative posts and 60% of localities.
All provincial capitals are covered by 4th Generation (4G) services, and it is hoped to expand this service to all district capitals and 50% of administrative posts by 2024.
The government’s 2020-2024 Five Year Plan also foresees the implementation of 5G telecommunications services in provincial capitals.
