Mozambique: Social assistance covers more households

Mozambique has registered a further 142 infections with the new coronavirus in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of cases to 2,411, with 16 deaths, announced the Ministry of Health.
“Of the cases reported on Monday, 139 are people of Mozambican nationality and three are foreigners,” said Armindo Tiago, the minister of health, when updating data on the pandemic at the Ministry of Health in Maputo.
Most of the 142 cases, the highest number ever recorded in 24 hours, are in Maputo City (78), followed by Maputo province (34), Gaza (21), Nampula (06), Manica (02) and Sofala (01).
“The cases reported today are in home isolation, and the identification of their respective contacts is currently underway,” added the minister.
Of the cases already registered in Mozambique, 2,228 are of local transmission and 183 are imported, while 860 people are reported as recovered.
The health authorities also indicate that 13 people are hospitalized and “suffer from various pathologies associated with Covid-19”.
Of the active cases in the country, the city of Maputo, capital of the country, registers the largest number, with 509 infections.
Since the announcement of the first Covid-19 case in Mozambique on 22 March, the country has conducted 70,459 tests of suspected cases, having screened over 1.6 million people.
26,795 suspected Covid 19 cases have been placed in home quarantine and 3,694 are still being followed up by health authorities.
